- Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
- Whisk in the cream and egg yolk and cook for 5-6 minutes more, reducing the heat to medium low.
- Add the onion powder and grated cheese and whisk in. Simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Turn heat off and allow to cool slightly for a few minutes whilst whisking every now and then to prevent a skin from forming until the sauce thickens.
