As we sat by her side one calm day
And we read a sweet Psalm from God’s own holy Word
Which did fill her whole heart with its ray.
I do love it said she, as with fondness she laid
A dear wrinkled old hand on its page
Tis a light and a lamp to our path all the way
And a comfort from youth to old age.
T’was a joy to behold her deep love for her God
As she drank in the truths of His Word.
And like her, I’m resolved I must strive to become,
Tis for sure the desire of the Lord.
That indeed were so dear to her heart.
Till one day came the time we must say our goodbyes,
From her dear loving side we must part.
And as now in deep grief I look back on that day,
On those last parting moments I dwell.
I can see that sweet smile, spread across her dear face,
As she raised up her hand in farwell.
Ah but now, just to think, she has joined up above
With the loved ones who’ve gone on before.
In white raiment they’re clothed, and with gladness they sing.
Their dear Saviour for e’r to adore.
So far past any dream here on earth, is her joy,
And so perfect her peace and her rest.
For no sin enters there in that land up above
But is home for the pure and the blessed.
Oh but wait, are you ready? your heart all washed clean,
From the sin that has made it’s mark there?
Are you trusting in Jesus your soul to redeem?
And His righteousness on you declare?
For a soul stained in sin shall no entry be gi’n
Though with many good works he may plead.
It is only through faith we are saved, by his grace,
Not by merit, by work, or by deed.
Look to Jesus in faith while you still have a chance
That with joy you may pass through the gate,
To that wonderful place where His glory doth shine
And our loved ones so eagerly wait.
